INDIA CHAPTER
The India Chapter of WCAPS was established to amplify the voices and leadership of women of color—particularly those from diverse and marginalized communities in India—within the spheres of peacebuilding, security, and conflict transformation.
Our purpose is to create a dynamic platform that nurtures dialogue, builds capacity, and forges connections among women changemakers, practitioners, academics, and policymakers across India.
Goals for India and the region
The WCAPS India Chapter is committed to achieving measurable and sustainable outcomes that advance peace, security, and justice through the leadership of women of color. Our targeted goals include:
Amplify Women’s Leadership: Increase the representation and influence of women of color in peacebuilding, security policy, and conflict transformation spaces across India.
Strengthen Capacity: Build the skills, knowledge, and networks of women activists, practitioners, and community leaders to drive effective and culturally relevant interventions.
Promote Inclusive Dialogue: Foster platforms for cross-sectoral dialogue and collaboration among women from diverse backgrounds to address conflict and security challenges.
Influence Policy and Practice: Advocate for gender-responsive policies and programs at local, state, and national levels that prioritize the needs and rights of marginalized women.
Support Resilience and Healing: Develop community-based initiatives that support survivors of conflict and violence and promote social cohesion and healing.
Raise Awareness: Increase public understanding of the intersectional issues affecting women of color in India related to peace and security.
These objectives guide our work towards building a more just, peaceful, and equitable society where women of color are empowered as change agents.
