Global warming is significantly impacting developing countries and the effects are far-reaching which is having a devastating impact on African women and their communities, leading to adverse social and economic consequences. Climate change has resulted in an increase in temperature, more extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and a decrease in water availability. As a result, African women are facing a growing number of challenges related to food insecurity, water scarcity, and healthcare access.

Climate change is taking a toll across the African continent. While the world is increasingly recognizing the various ways in which climate change is negatively impacting African communities—from decreased agricultural productivity to increased incidence of natural disasters and even to heightened conflict—there remains much we as a global community do not fully understand.

Mexico is no longer just a transit country for migrants, it has become a destination country for those seeking refuge from their home country. According to Refugee International, in 2021 Mexico saw over 70 percent increase in asylum cases.

As the world celebrates another Earth Day, focused on educating and inspiring action in the global citizenry, we must acknowledge and turn to the leadership of those who have been protecting and investing in our planet for millennia.

WCAPS stands with the civilians of Ukraine as the ongoing crisis is a threat to peace and security in Europe and across the globe. The conflict that has been witnessed over the last 24 hours impacts and disrupts the lives of women, children, and marginalized populations the most. We will continue to join the international community in calling for peace throughout the region.

Women of Color Advancing Peace and Security (WCAPS) is pleased to recognize Black History Month during February. This year, WCAPS will be honoring the pillars of African American history and the Black women who have broken barriers in the field of international peace, diplomacy, and foreign affairs. As we continue to bridge the diversity gap amongst black women, we are delighted to reflect on our nation's progress to include their expertise in foreign affairs in the field of peace and security.

Washington, D.C. – Women of Color Advancing Peace and Security (WCAPS) applauds the Pakistan appointment of Justice Ayesha Malik as its first female Supreme Court judge in history.

WCAPS participated in the 22nd Annual AfriCando Conference, which focused on the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and the effects of COVID-19 on U.S.-Africa trade. The conference participants included WCAPS Executive Director Shalonda Spencer and International Development and Training Lead Ileana R. Valle, accompanied by distinguished co-chairs of WCAPS Cybersecurity Working Group, Ayan Islam, and Sayako Quinlan, as well as dignitaries of Miami-Dade County and participating AGOA nations.

September 21 is designated as International Peace Day by the United Nations National Assembly. The day calls for a 24-hour ceasefire. Even with an absence of violence, there is still turmoil and inequity globally. Covid-19 and its residual effects make inequities more transparent. Global vaccine inequalities lead to worsening human development and socio-economic outcomes.

This policy brief highlights the need for reform in how funding is dispersed to aid anti-human trafficking efforts in Nigeria ⏤ a country of origin, a pathway of transit, and a destination for victims of trafficking.
