Grant Writer Opportunity at RAHMA

RAHMA is seeking a highly-motivated individual to serve as our Grant Writer. RAHMA is an award winning, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization located in Washington, DC which has been recognized by The White House, Former President Obama and featured in The Huffington Post and other media.

Its mission is to address HIV & AIDS, Gender Based Violence and Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) through education, advocacy and empowerment. We envision a world where marginalized populations feel safe within their communities regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, HIV status or lived experiences.

The Grant Writer reports to the Executive Director and will research, write, prepare, submit and report on grant proposals to corporations, institutions, foundations, individuals and other applicable agencies. Additionally the Grant Writer will seek out new sources of funding that support RAHMA’s mission, goals and supportive of building its donor database. 

Requirements

  • Average of 20 hours a week (possibility of becoming full time)

  • Flexible Days and Hours as long as deadlines are met

Duties

  • Research, write, prepare and submit strong grant proposals

  • Write approximately 2 - 3 grants a month

  • Manage grant calendar and deadlines

  • Provide timely reports to grantors

  • Point of contact for existing grants and funding partnerships

  • Ensure grant, donor and gift information are up to date and accurate

  • Provide ongoing and by request grant reports to Executive Director and Board of Directors

  • Build and maintain relationships with point of contacts at foundations, corporations, nonprofits and other appropriate personnel.

  • Collect, analyze, and synthesize quantitative and qualitative data and ensure all relevant project data is maintained.

  • Oversee Grant & Finance Intern.

  • Other duties as needed

Skills/Experience Needed:

  • Familiarity with sub-Saharan African, Middle Eastern, South Asian, African American, Latinx cultures and/or marginalized communities

  • Ability to work with diverse populations

  • At least 3 years of grant writing experience with a proven track record in the nonprofit sector

  • Experience with government, corporate and/or foundation funders

  • Ability to write persuasive, effective, structured and competitive grant proposals.

  • Ability to manage site visits with funders and provide community programs outcome and statistics.

  • Passionate about serving populations affected by FGM/C, HIV and/or Gender Based Violence

  • Strong organizational and management skills

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast paced environment

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Detail-oriented, able to follow directions, and take initiative when needed

  • Outgoing and friendly personality, professional demeanor

  • Comfortable working remotely and communicating with team members effectively

  • Other duties as assigned
