Maha Kamel

Maha Kamel - Maha Kamel is a Program Officer at the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) where she oversees foreign assistance programming in North Africa and Yemen. She serves as the co-chair of the DRL Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Council, as well as in several leadership positions
with the Arab Americans in Foreign Affairs Agencies Employee Organization, Women of Color
Advancing Peace, Security and Conflict Transformation, SWANA working group, and as an Ambassador
with Afikra, a global organization that aims to promote the diversity and richness of Arab culture and
history. She is a proud first-generation college graduate from American University's School of
International Service where she focused on comparative governance in the Middle East and North Africa.
Through the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs she completed Arabic
immersion programs in Morocco and Jordan. Maha has worked with the Institute of International
Education, FHI 360, and the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement.
She is passionate about reforming U.S. foreign assistance, international exchange, and human rights.
