Mission
The WCAPS WCESA Working Group aims to foster a community of women of color with a background, interest or regional focus on the African continent.
Our group is particularly focused on the geopolitically, economically and geographically informed regional blocs on the continent: West, Central, East and South Africa, while fostering the exchange of ideas, promotion of professional development, and culminating of worldwide connectivity of women of color Africa experts that knows no bounds. The WCESA working group strives to continue centering the diversity of African voices and analysis across the continent, the Diaspora, different areas of expertise, as well as societal perspectives.
Purpose
To connect WCAPS members across working groups, regions, and professional focus areas with a background or interest in Africa.
To create networking and mentorship opportunities for growing the ranks of women of color who work on issues in the field of peace, security, conflict transformation, and beyond on the African continent.
To collaborate with other WCAPS working groups and chapters to achieve a thriving network of empowered women of color, pursuing their intersectional interests in policy, peace, security, and/or conflict transformation.
Goals
Build a community of women who care about, are studying, or are working on issues related to the African Continent.
Amplify the voices of women of color studying or working on peace, security, and conflict transformation in Africa and on the continent of Africa.
Provide a platform for women of color to openly discuss regional policies, issues and activities in a way that intersects with other working groups and the WCAPS goal of redefining national security.
Cultivate networking and outward-facing opportunities for members to engage.
Celebrate the diversity of cultures and histories represented across the larger region known as Africa.
